More Rain Forecasted for Karachi Today, Sindh Government Gears Up for Emergencies
Karachi Braces for Another Day of Heavy Rain as Sindh Government Activates Emergency Measures
Karachi is preparing for another day of heavy rain, coupled with strong winds, as the ongoing monsoon system continues to affect the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting more downpours today, with temperatures expected to range between 25.5°C and 33°C. This weather alert has prompted the city to brace for further challenges as the monsoon rains persist.
In the past 24 hours, several areas in Karachi recorded significant rainfall. Quaidabad received the highest amount, with 52 mm of rain, followed by 46 mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 30 mm in North Karachi, 26 mm in Nazimabad, and 25 mm in Surjani. Other parts of the city, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Keamari, and University Road, also experienced heavy rainfall. The intensity of the rains led to water accumulation on various roads, creating significant transportation challenges for residents.
The relentless downpour has also resulted in widespread power outages across the city, plunging several neighborhoods into darkness. The disruption in electricity has added to the difficulties faced by Karachi’s residents, already grappling with the effects of the heavy rain.
In response to the ongoing weather conditions, the Sindh government has taken several precautionary measures to manage potential emergencies caused by the rain. Provincial Minister for Information, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that a rain emergency cell has been established at the Chief Minister’s House. This cell is dedicated to monitoring the situation closely and coordinating efforts to address any rain-related emergencies.
To further mitigate the impact of the heavy rains, the government has deployed necessary machinery across the city to ensure the timely drainage of water, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding. The goal is to minimize public disruption and prevent the flooding of streets and residential areas. These measures are crucial as Karachi continues to experience the challenges brought on by the ongoing monsoon season.
The Sindh government’s proactive steps are aimed at safeguarding the city’s infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. As the monsoon rains continue, the government remains vigilant, ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
