Pakistan has made significant strides in its mango export industry, sending 13,681 metric tons of mangoes to 42 countries and generating a substantial $46.7 million in revenue over the past one and a half months, according to official documents obtained by The Express Tribune.
The United Kingdom emerged as the top destination for Pakistani mangoes, importing fruit worth $13.2 million. In terms of volume, Kazakhstan led the way, receiving 4,467 metric tons from Pakistan. This strong performance highlights the growing international demand for Pakistani mangoes, renowned for their exceptional quality and flavor.
Mangoes hold a special place in Pakistan’s horticultural sector, often referred to as the “king of fruits.” They are the second most cultivated fruit in the country after citrus. Pakistan’s mangoes are celebrated worldwide for their sweetness, juiciness, and unique flavor profile. The country’s mango production primarily occurs in the Sindh and Punjab provinces, with an overall yield of approximately 1.8 million tons annually. Key varieties include Sindhri, Chaunsa, Langra, Anwar Ratol, Dussehri, Fajri, Bangan Pali, and Saroli. The mango season in Pakistan typically spans from May to September.
The export data for the past one and a half months reveals a diverse international market for Pakistani mangoes. Besides the UK and Kazakhstan, notable importers include Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Germany, and Bahrain.
