The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia held a dignified flag hoisting ceremony on Saturday morning to commemorate the 79th Independence Day of Indonesia. The event took place at the Embassy’s premises, with the ceremony led by the Chargé d’Affaires of Indonesia, Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma.
This solemn event marked the culmination of a series of pre-celebration activities designed to foster unity and mutual respect among Indonesians, as well as to reinforce a sense of patriotism toward their homeland. The ceremony drew a large crowd, including Embassy officials, their families, and numerous members of the Indonesian diaspora residing in various cities across Pakistan. The gathering was imbued with traditional Indonesian fervor, reflecting the deep cultural pride associated with the Independence Day celebrations.
In addition to the Indonesian community, the event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including prominent religious leaders, journalists, experts from reputable think tanks, and representatives from the vibrant business community. Their presence underscored the importance of the occasion and highlighted the strong ties between Indonesia and Pakistan.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence to pay tribute to Indonesia’s national heroes, followed by the reading of the Proclamation of Independence. This solemn ritual set the tone for the rest of the event, which concluded with special prayers for the nation and a renewed commitment to advancing Indonesia’s prosperity, harmony, and resilience.
The flag hoisting ceremony, referred to in Indonesian as “Upacara Bendera,” featured a meticulously organized display by the Embassy’s Flag Hoisting Team. This team, composed of well-dressed Indonesian students, had the honor of receiving the national flag from Chargé d’Affaires Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma. The team then raised the red-and-white flag with great reverence as the Indonesian National Anthem, “Indonesia Raya” (Great Indonesia), played.
In his address to the attendees, Chargé d’Affaires Kusuma expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to everyone for participating in this significant celebration of Indonesian Independence Day. He highlighted the strong bond between Indonesia and Pakistan, emphasizing that both nations, as the two largest Muslim countries in the world, share a deep friendship. “Indonesia and Pakistan, the two largest Muslim countries in the world, dosti zindabad!” Kusuma declared, reflecting the spirit of camaraderie between the two nations.
Kusuma also invited attendees to the Indonesian Expo 2024, scheduled to take place at the Centaurus Mall, which will officially open later that afternoon. He extended a warm invitation for everyone to experience Indonesian culture and hospitality in various cities across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Bandung.
As a token of appreciation for their outstanding academic achievements, the Chargé d’Affaires presented certificates of appreciation to a group of Indonesian students in Pakistan who have distinguished themselves in their higher-level studies. This gesture recognized their dedication and success in pursuing their academic goals.
The event also featured positive remarks from several distinguished guests. Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, CEO of D Watson Group, congratulated Indonesia on its Independence Day and expressed anticipation for future invitations from the Indonesian Embassy. Tariq Ullah Sufi, CEO of Hamza Veg, Oil Refinery, & Ghee Mills (Pvt.) Limited, praised the organization of the event and conveyed his support and prayers for the Embassy. Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed Ali, Chairman of the Muslim Institute, also commended the event and extended his best wishes.
Following the formal ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Kusuma hosted a small reception for the guests in the Embassy’s Hall. The reception featured Tumpeng, a traditional cone-shaped rice dish that is an integral part of Indonesian celebrations and significant events. This customary dish added a touch of authentic Indonesian culture to the festivities, enhancing the overall experience for all attendees.
The event not only celebrated Indonesia’s independence but also strengthened the cultural and diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Pakistan. It highlighted the enduring friendship and mutual respect shared by the two nations.
