JUI-F Denies Rumors of Zardari-Fazl Meeting

Spokesperson Asserts No Political Discussions Occurred During Meeting

JUI-F Refutes Claims of Political Deal During Zardari-Fazl Meeting

ISLAMABAD: Amid swirling rumors regarding a recent meeting between former President Asif Ali Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri has categorically dismissed these claims as “baseless” and unfounded.

Ghauri addressed the media, asserting that the speculation surrounding the meeting is without merit. He clarified that the encounter between Zardari and Rehman was a purely personal affair, and emphasized that no political discussions or negotiations took place during their meeting. “The news circulating in the media regarding political horse-trading or backroom deals is entirely unfounded,” Ghauri stated.

The meeting, which took place at Rehman’s residence on Saturday, had triggered widespread speculation, particularly given the context of the upcoming parliamentary sessions. Some political analysts had speculated that the meeting might be linked to forthcoming key legislation or potential strategic alignments involving the coalition government. However, Ghauri firmly rejected any such implications, reaffirming that the meeting was devoid of political undertones.

In his remarks, Ghauri suggested that the rumors might have originated from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Faisal Kundi. “It appears that these baseless reports are being propagated by Governor Kundi,” Ghauri claimed. He accused the governor of expressing his personal insecurities by spreading unfounded rumors. “Kundi’s attempts to spread such misinformation seem to stem from his own fears,” Ghauri asserted.

Ghauri’s clarification also comes in the wake of political conjectures about possible maneuvers within the coalition government. The timing of the meeting had led some observers to speculate about its potential implications for legislative agendas and political alliances. However, Ghauri emphasized that the JUI-F maintains a clear and straightforward position on the current political climate, and that the meeting between Zardari and Rehman was strictly a personal interaction.

Furthermore, Ghauri addressed the issue of Senate seats, which had been a topic of recent political discussion. He firmly denied any negotiations between JUI-F and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party regarding Senate positions. “There have been no discussions or negotiations with PTI concerning Senate seats,” Ghauri stated. He added that this topic was not even on the agenda of the negotiation committee or its sub-committees. According to Ghauri, the recent sub-committee meetings were focused solely on routine parliamentary affairs. “Our interactions with PTI are limited to addressing specific issues on a case-by-case basis,” he noted.

In a pointed criticism of K-P Governor Faisal Kundi, Ghauri remarked, “Governor Kundi needs to stop spitting at the sky while sitting on the ground.” He cautioned that if Kundi continued to make statements beyond his political reach, there would be consequences. Ghauri also advised the governor to adhere to the appropriate decorum when communicating with high-ranking officials such as the president.

Ghauri’s statements underscore JUI-F’s commitment to maintaining clarity and integrity in its political dealings and interactions. The party’s response aims to dispel any misconceptions and reaffirm its position amid the ongoing political discussions and speculation.
