Achakzai-Led Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan to Finalize Tarnol Rally Preparations in Tuesday Meeting
Achakzai-Led Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan Prepares for Tarnol Rally Amidst Political Tensions
LAHORE: In response to a call from the detained founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, the opposition alliance is gearing up for a significant public rally in Tarnol, Islamabad, scheduled for Thursday. The rally, organized under the banner of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) and led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, marks a critical moment in the ongoing political landscape of Pakistan.
The final preparations for the rally were discussed in a pivotal meeting held on Tuesday. This meeting, chaired by Achakzai, saw the attendance of prominent opposition figures, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and PTI leader Shibli Faraz, among others.
The meeting focused on reviewing the logistical arrangements for the Tarnol rally and assessing the current political climate, particularly following a recent ruling by the Islamabad High Court concerning Imran Khan. The opposition leaders reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the rally remains peaceful, underscoring that such demonstrations are a fundamental democratic and constitutional right of Pakistani citizens.
Omar Ayub Khan expressed optimism about the rally despite potential governmental obstacles. He stated, “Tehreek-e-Insaf’s rallies have always been peaceful. We are determined to continue our efforts to restore the constitution and the rule of law in Pakistan. We will soon launch a nationwide campaign against the government.”
Concerns were also raised during the meeting about the conduct of the government and Parliament. PTI Punjab Information Secretary Shaukat Mehmood Basra emphasized that the rally on August 22 is anticipated to be a landmark event. He projected significant participation from party supporters and workers nationwide. “This rally will mark the beginning of our renewed struggle for the release of Imran Khan and other detained leaders,” Basra remarked.
Basra urged PTI leaders and workers across Punjab to mobilize and participate in the rally, highlighting that it would be a peaceful demonstration. He predicted that the protest would draw a considerable number of participants, including families and members of civil society. “We are committed to advocating for the release of our leaders and workers, including Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, and former Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema,” Basra added.
The rally’s planned location, Tarnol, is set to become a focal point for the opposition’s demonstration of strength and unity. With the current political tensions and the ongoing detention of key PTI leaders, the Tarnol rally is expected to be a significant event in the broader struggle for political reform and accountability in Pakistan.
As the opposition prepares for this high-stakes rally, the focus remains on ensuring a peaceful and impactful demonstration that underscores their demands for political change and justice. The outcome of this rally could have substantial implications for the future political dynamics in Pakistan.
