Haider Ali is set to represent Pakistan in the F37 discus throw event, scheduled for September 6.
Haider Ali, Pakistan’s Sole Paralympian, Heads to Paris for Upcoming Games
Haider Ali, Pakistan’s only athlete competing in the forthcoming Paralympic Games, has departed for Paris with his coach, Akbar Ali. The Paralympic Games, set to commence with an opening ceremony on August 28, will see over 4,000 athletes from 170 countries showcase their skills across a range of sports for athletes with physical disabilities.
Haider Ali, hailing from Gujranwala, will represent Pakistan in the F37 category of the discus throw event, which is scheduled for September 6. This appearance marks Ali’s fifth Paralympic Games participation, underlining his enduring presence and success in the sport.
Ali’s track record at the Paralympics is distinguished and impressive. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, he clinched a gold medal in the discus throw with a remarkable throw of 55.26 meters. This victory was a significant milestone in his career, further cementing his status as one of Pakistan’s top Paralympic athletes. His previous achievements include a silver medal in the long jump at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and a bronze medal in the same event at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Unfortunately, Ali was unable to compete in the 2012 London Paralympics due to an injury, which temporarily halted his participation in the Games. Despite this setback, his return to the Paralympic stage has been marked by resilience and exceptional performances.
On August 13, Yasir Pirzada, Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), officially confirmed Ali’s participation in this year’s Paralympics. During a meeting with Ali, Pirzada expressed his admiration for Ali’s talent and dedication, emphasizing his confidence in Ali’s potential to secure another medal for Pakistan.
“We are honored to send Haider Ali to the Paralympics once again. His exceptional talent and dedication make him a top contender for another medal, and we are confident that he will make Pakistan proud again,” Pirzada stated.
Ali’s journey to Paris is anticipated with great excitement and support from the nation. His continued presence and performance at the Paralympic Games not only highlight his personal achievements but also inspire many in Pakistan and around the world.
With the Games fast approaching, the entire nation is hopeful that Haider Ali’s exceptional skills and dedication will lead him to another remarkable performance, further enhancing Pakistan’s reputation on the global Paralympic stage.
