PM and Army Chief Pledge to Counter Attempts to Destabilize Balochistan

Apex Committee Agrees to Enhance Intelligence Sharing Among Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies

PM and Army Chief Commit to Safeguarding Balochistan’s Peace and Development

QUETTA:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Balochistan from hostile forces aiming to disrupt the province’s peace and development. During a crucial meeting of the National Action Plan’s Apex Committee held in Quetta on Thursday, the leaders pledged to take decisive action against any attempts to destabilize the region.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sharif, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, COAS General Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Commander of Balochistan Corps, and top officials from civil, police, intelligence, and military sectors. The session commenced with a moment of silence for the victims of recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan, expressing solidarity with their families and commending the security forces for their timely and brave response, which helped prevent further casualties.

Prime Minister Sharif addressed the gathering by praising the sacrifices and resilience of the people of Balochistan. He emphasized that Pakistan’s adversaries are attempting to incite unrest in the province but assured that they would be met with full force and national support. “The recent terrorist incidents have deeply affected the nation. We will not tolerate any leniency towards those who shed innocent blood,” Sharif declared.

Highlighting the government’s resolve, the Prime Minister stressed that all possible measures would be undertaken to ensure Balochistan’s development and prosperity. The committee unanimously condemned the recent attacks and agreed to ramp up efforts against terrorism in the province. A key decision made during the meeting was to enhance intelligence sharing among security forces and law enforcement agencies. This includes bolstering the capabilities of the Counter-Terrorism Department, police, Levies, and other relevant departments to more effectively combat terrorism.

Prime Minister Sharif and General Munir reinforced their stance that no external forces would be permitted to disrupt Balochistan’s stability. The committee also resolved to pursue and bring to justice all individuals involved in planning, instigating, facilitating, and perpetrating terrorist activities. Ensuring the safety and security of citizens remains a top priority, with the Prime Minister distributing compensation cheques to the families of victims from recent attacks and pledging the state’s full support and protection.

Following the Apex Committee meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of collective efforts to uphold peace in Balochistan. “We are determined to eradicate terrorism from our country at all costs, and there will be no tolerance for terrorists,” Sharif asserted. He also highlighted the importance of engaging in dialogue with those who respect Pakistan’s flag and Constitution while making it clear that no negotiations would be entertained with those who oppose the state.

Sharif addressed concerns about security personnel, noting that past security issues had discouraged some officers from serving in Balochistan. To address this, he announced a new policy that involves posting officers from the 48th Common Training Programme to Balochistan for one year, followed by officers from the 49th batch for a year and a half. Officers assigned to Balochistan will receive special incentives, including four air tickets for their families every three months and additional performance-based points.

The Prime Minister’s address and the Apex Committee’s decisions reflect a strong commitment to ensuring the stability and progress of Balochistan amid ongoing challenges. With enhanced measures and support for both citizens and security personnel, the government aims to confront and overcome the threats facing the province.
