Punjab Police Foil Militant Attack in DG Khan, Two Terrorists Killed

In a significant security operation, Punjab Police successfully thwarted a militant attack in the Taunsa Sharif area of Dera Ghazi Khan on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists. This development comes just two days after a deadly rocket attack on a police van in Rahim Yar Khan, which claimed the lives of over 12 policemen and left several others injured.

The clash unfolded when a group of insurgents, armed with hand grenades and heavy weaponry, launched an assault against police forces. During the intense exchange of fire, SHO Sadiq Baramani of Vehova Police Station and Constable Muzammil Nazir sustained injuries. Despite the heavy gunfire and grenades, the officers, equipped with bulletproof vehicles, helmets, and jackets, responded with resolve and efficiency.

A spokesperson for Punjab Police noted that the insurgents were believed to be planning attacks on police stations or other sensitive locations within Punjab. In response, checkpoints along the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border had been placed on high alert. The spokesperson emphasized that this precautionary measure was a result of intelligence reports indicating potential terrorist infiltration into the province.

In addition to the thwarted attack in DG Khan, the police successfully intercepted four other attempts by militants to target checkpoints on the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa border. The proactive measures taken by the police were crucial in preventing further violence and maintaining security in the region.

Following the confrontation, backup teams from the police and Elite Force arrived at the scene. The rapid response and coordinated efforts of these units played a key role in neutralizing the insurgent threat. The police vehicle involved in the operation sustained damage from the grenades and gunfire, highlighting the severity of the attack.

RPO Dera Ghazi Khan, Captain (retd) Sajjad Hassan Khan, and DPO Syed Ali promptly arrived at the scene to oversee the situation. They also visited Tehsil Hospital Taunsa to check on the condition of the injured officers. The swift action and support from senior officials underscored the commitment to addressing the security challenges in the region.

Punjab Police Chief Dr. Usman Anwar commended the bravery and dedication of the officers involved in the operation. “The police and all security agencies are on high alert. We will not allow terrorists to enter Punjab under any circumstances,” Dr. Anwar stated. He reaffirmed the commitment of Punjab Police to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, emphasizing that every effort would be made to protect the community.

In the wake of the attack, a comprehensive search and sweep operation by police and other law enforcement agencies is ongoing in the area. This operation aims to identify and apprehend any additional militants and ensure that the region remains secure.

The thwarted attack in Dera Ghazi Khan highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Punjab Police and their dedication to countering militant threats. As the situation continues to develop, the focus remains on maintaining vigilance and ensuring the safety of the public.
